New Projects

It's finally here! The recording of the Suleyman Takhalov Ensemble. This is a recording from 1995 and 1997 in Israel, of a group of Jewish musicians from Uzbekistan and Tadjikistan who moved to Israel in the early 90’s. The group’s founder and musical director, Suleyman Takhalov, is teaching at the Music Department of Bar Ilan University and the Jerusalem Academy of Music. He has been involved in a number of musical projects in his home country of Uzbekistan, and continues to pursue his musical interests in Israel. This recording documents his first ensemble in Israel, and will be released soon. Takhalov and the other musicians in this ensemble all had extensive musical education and involvement in the traditional music shared by Uzbekistan and Tadjikistan, and were highly regarded as representatives of this tradition. Ancient Future Trio

Matthew Montfort - scalloped fretboard and fretless guitars

Mariah Parker - santur (hammered dulcimer)

Joe Fajen - tabla, percussion

This concert features a trio version of the pioneering world fusion music group Ancient Future featuring scalloped fretboard guitarist Matthew Montfort, santurist Mariah Parker, and Joe Fajen on tabla and percussion. The trio concentrates on Arabic, Indian, and Spanish musical themes and will perform music from Ancient Future's broad repertoire including three current releases on Ancient-Future.Com Records celebrating 30 years of world fusion music: 'Planet Passion' by Ancient Future (remastered to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the band), 'Seven Serenades for Scalloped Fretboard Guitar' by Ancient Future leader Matthew Montfort, and 'Sangria' by Mariah Parker.

Ancient Future is the first and longest running musical organization dedicated exclusively to the mission of creating world fusion music. The term was coined by bandleader Matthew Montfort in 1978 to describe Ancient Future's unusual blend of musical traditions from around the world. BILLBOARD calls the group "trendsetters" for their early contributions to the movement, which seeks to show how people from different cultures can grow by learning from each other. There are more than 12 versions from the band, each with different musicians from different cultures in order to fully explore the varieties of world fusion music. The version of Ancient Future performing on this bill concentrates on Arabic, Indian, and Spanish musical themes, and has performed in Spain at festivals in Sant Carles de la Ràpita, Botarell, Torredembarra, and Salou.

Award winner at Feria Flamenca 2000, young José Gálvez is heir to the pure gypsy tradition of Cante Jondo. Gálvez was born and raised in Jerez de la Frontera, in the “flamenquísimo” Santiago neighborhood of the poet and Saeta singer, Paco Galvez. He is the nephew of the legenday Juan ‘Parilla de Jerez’; who was featured accompanying La Paquera de Jerez in Tony Gatlick’s movie VENGO.

His prodigious talents for guitar were revealed at age five, by seven he was already a “tocaor” (guitarist) in flamenco fiestas. At 14 he left school to work for the classic Spanish dance company Valladolid of Zurich. He spent the next two years touring Europe and enriching his musical knowledge. This led him to Madrid where he began to accompany Flamenco dance as a ‘Cantaor’ (singer) and collaborated with Gerardo Nuñez, Carmen Cortez, Monolete, Alejandro Granados, and Domingo Ortega to name a few.

In 1997 he was featured on the compilation “Jerez Joven por Bulerias” (out of print) produced by the legendary guitarist, ‘Moraito’. In 1999 he recorded his first solo album “Bohemio de Amor”. His works attracted local and National attention employing him with artists such as  Alejandro Sanz, Juaquin Cortez, and Antonio Canales
